Within An Instant He thought he had his life figured out
Nothing in his future was left to doubt
Then one day it was all turned around
Every dream he had, flipped upside down
All it took was a single wake up call
To see one man's world begin to fall
Spiralling downward without control
Now he is left with nothing at all

Everything that he ever had went
Up in smoke within the instant
That he found out his girlfriend
Died on her way to his apartment
He had waited but she never arrived
She was tired and feeling sleep deprived
Along the way she fell asleep on the drive
Little did she know it would cost her life

Earlier that day, he had written her a
Promise Me Promise me that when times get tough,
You will be standing by my side,
Because I've had just about enough,
Of people walking out of my life.

I am afraid of letting you get too close,
Scared that one day you might leave.
That is what would hurt me most,
Because you're the one person I need.

No one else has enough of my heart,
To hurt me the way that you could.
Nothing else could break me apart,
Than you leaving me here for good.

It's not that I can't make it without you,
It's that I don't even want to try.
Because I don't ever want to go through,
What I'd feel if you ever said goodbye.

So make with me this one little vow,
Star
What If It Were You? Somewhere out there,
Someone's needing your help.
When is the last time you cared
For anyone outside of yourself?

Maybe they just need a friend,
Someone to lend them a hand.
Someone they can confide in,
Someone to understand.

In a place that isn't too far,
There's someone that's being abused.
In fact there's a lot of us that are,
But what if it were you?

It only takes that one,
To not turn a blind eye.
You could be that someone,
That impacts somebody's life.

And on a not too distant street,
There's someone without a home.
They are sleeping on the concrete,
With nowhere else to go.

Would it kill you if you went,
And spared
Special Kind Of Low I never thought it was even possible,
To hate someone the way that I do you.
You make every inch of my skin crawl,
With the shit you've put me through.

What makes you think that it's alright,
To treat me the way that you do.
I can tell you now, you have no right,
I would never do those things to you.

To hit a girl, takes a special kind of low,
Something only a coward could achieve.
The fact that you feel big, goes to show,
You are worse than even I could've conceived.

You can knock me down a thousand times,
If it makes you feel more like a man.
But I think you know that deep inside,
You will never be able to break who I am.

Just For Tonight Stay with me for just a little while,
I need someone to keep me warm.
Let me lay here in my own denial,
That it's not her you're leaving for.

For just one night let's make believe,
That the world consists of you and I.
And she exists only as a memory,
And not the reason you say goodbye.

I could stay here with you forever,
Content without ever needing more.
But until the day there is no 'her',
It will be like every other time before.

You will stay just barely long enough,
So you maintain your sense of relevance.
Making me fall in love all over again.. but,
Leaving as soon as you get the chance.

So tonight let us make this pact,
Heaven Is Just A State Of Mind If heaven is just a state of mind,
Then Lord let my mind run free.
I would rather go on being blind,
Than have nothing at all to believe.

It is the only way I am even able,
To live in this world so full of hate.
It is the core of what keeps me stable,
Knowing there are better things that await.

It gives me hope so I can stay strong,
And the courage that gets me by.
If there's some chance I am wrong,
At least I won't find out 'til I die.

Maybe I am chasing fairytales,
Or the greatest story ever told.
Fiction on the grandest scale,
To which millions have been sold.

It's a risk that I am willing to take,
If someday I should ever

And every dream were a page,
You'd see with one look,
You're on center stage.

You'd be the leading man,
And I'd be the girl
Who never quite can
Live up to your world.

I'd be the friend
Who's right at your side,
Trying to pretend
There's no feelings to hide.

You'd see through my eyes
How important you are.
I couldn't disguise
That I'm longing for more.

You'd be the theme
That filled up the lines.
You'd be the dream,
I'd be the punchline.

Maybe one day
I'll give you a look,
Show you the pages
To my unwritten book.

Personally, I think you may downplay yourself more than you should. The way you set up the rhyme scheme in this poem was pretty good.

My Own Worst Fear I'm trapped inside a space
It's dark and it's cold
I don't know this place
And I'm here all alone.

I can feel myself scream
but nobody hears.
I'm stuck in this dream.
I'm weak and I'm scared.

Inside Im crying
But there's no one to see
I'm frantically trying
To set myself free.

I'm drenched in my tears
That weep down my face
I'm lost in this nightmare
There's nowhere to escape.

Casting Stones It's no wonder you're left there all alone.
Passing judgement in your condescending tone.
You're always the first one to cast the stone,
As you sit so high on your self made throne.

I hope it crumbles just so that I can watch you fall.
I'll point and I'll laugh, seeing you try to crawl.
We'll see how far you get when you're not standing 10ft tall.
And when you cry for help, will there be anyone there at all?

You get your pleasures in someone elses pain.
You take but never give, until there's nothing left to gain.
And then you wait until you can do it all over again.
You are the definition of everything I disdain.

Daydream She looks out her window,
Gazing at the scenary.
Endless mounds of snow,
Covering up the greenery.

She wonders what could be past,
This infinite sea of white.
She starts to think back,
Over the regrets in her life.

Things didn't turn out,
The way she thought that it would.
Her whole life's about,
Her children and motherhood.

She loves her family,
As much as anyone should.
But she'll never be carefree,
And wishes that she could.

Her thoughts begin to drift,
As she wonders how it might be,
To have the world at her fingertips,
To finally be free.

She hears the kids outside her door,
And her daydream starts to fade.
